Travel broadens, they have said. I believe it.
I don’t just lie on the beach or ride tour buses, although I admit that I’ve done both and they’re just fine by me…sometimes.
I veer towards the working vacation: my fun and relaxation are in the challenge of a new culture, a new language, and new ways to communicate.
And where have I met these challenges?
The Trans-Siberian Express. A friend’s wedding in Goa. A family reunion in Narvik. Buddha’s Birthday in Seoul. Kinkakuji in Kyoto. The erotic temples of Khajuraho. Day of the Dead at Lake Patzcuaro. The Iron Range of Minnesota. The West Side of Chicago.
Don’t think they haven’t all influenced me, because they have. Would I go back to these and the others I have seen?
Hell yes, in a heartbeat.
Will I go to new places to expand my vision?
Because successful communication in this world does not mean one more sassy tagline and yet another slick graphic.
It means talking to people meaningfully and intimately.
Face to face. Ones and zeros to ones and zeros.
Let’s talk more.
